Fabian Ziegler and Theodor Milkov perform The All-Seeing Sky with the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra conducted by Miltos Logiadis.
The journey of the Greek National Orchestra to every corner of the earth takes us this time to distant Oceania, through special works. The program is dominated by a special work by a unique artist, the preeminent representative of the Maori musical tradition Jerome Kavanagh Poutama, whom the city's audience will have the opportunity to enjoy live in the composition 'Papatūānuku' (Mother of the Earth) that he wrote together with the multi-talented young composer Salina Fisher and will perform with 19 different traditional Maori instruments.
John Psathas is considered one of the three most prominent contemporary Greek composers of the diaspora. He was born and lives in New Zealand, where his international success has been described as unprecedented in the country's musical history. ''Omniscient Heaven'' is a wonderful work written and dedicated to the percussionists Fabian Ziegler and Luca Staffelbach. The program concludes with seven famous short pieces by the contemporary Australian composer Percy Grainger, who orchestrated them for large orchestra at the request of the legendary American conductor Leopold Stokowski, who had a special appreciation for Grainger and wanted to record his music. In fact, he actively participated in the transcription process, contributing to the wonderful final result.
